This Is What Life Is All About

Do you know who Miranda July is?

It’s cool, I didn’t either until I heard about how she refused to answer any questions about the meaning of her work.

Why does she do what she does? What is the point of it? How does she aim to make a difference from her work? Who is she trying to be?

Well, after researching a little more about her, this is what I gathered. She does what she does because it makes her happy. The point of all her hard work is that it makes sense to her, and it matters to her.

Her work makes a difference to her, and the people that support her. Ultimately, she isn’t trying to be anybody but herself.

No One Belongs Here More Than You

Have you seen the website promoting her book? This website doesn’t follow the usual status quo. It starts with getting you to question her motives- but it is only after a while you start to understand the motive behind it all.

Her work isn’t straight forward, however at the same time, once you understand it, it is.

She uses satire. In order to promote her book, she holds an enigmatic conversation through a serious of pictures on her website noonebelongsheremorethanyou.com .

Here are some examples from her website:

Like I mentioned, she has a proper conversation and keeps you hooked.

Now you may wonder what’s the point of all this information about Miranda July?

I’m glad you’re wondering, because wondering is a beautiful thing. The point is that her oddness rubs off on you! Her oddness is inspiring. Her oddness evokes confidence- a trait that is essential for an artist’s work to matter.

Embracing what makes you unique. Accepting and flaunting what makes you, you. Thinking out loud & screaming out a song without opening your mouth. Painting something that makes sense to you and calling it abstract. And walking your anteater, like Salvador Dali did. This is what it is all about, writing your own story. One that makes sense to you, regardless of how others perceive it.

Because, in words of Mrs. July, YOU OBVIOUSLY KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT.
