How I Paved a New Path (episode 5)

This is part one of a five-part series I’m writing about how I went from emerging artist and Director of a Residency Program, to hosting exhibitions at large art fairs like Art Basel Miami and Frieze New York. Sounds like a success story, but the sea wasn’t always smooth-sailing. Want to get them all delivered to your inbox? Sign up at the end of this post!

My first Exposure exhibition was a success. And the future was bright.

My mission was – and still is – to pave a new path in the art world – for all of us – and make a new, less treacherous way of finding success as a career artist. Artists don’t have to be established or filthy rich to show their work and gain exposure at big art fairs; and now I’ve proven it.

Do you ever feel like you just don’t know what to do to get yourself out there? That feeling where you know you’ve got a great body of work, and you’re so motivated to get your name out there, but you feel helpless as to HOW?

Yeah, I know how it feels. Believe me, it took me a long time to get here. But it really doesn’t have to be that way. I want to break down the barriers and help you get somewhere, and get there fast.

The Exposure Program has exploded to a nationwide program. We have shown in Miami, New York City, and Los Angeles, and now we’re gearing up for Art Basel Miami again. Looking back at our first exhibition really shows me how far we’ve come and gives me even more confidence that I can help you get as far as you want to get – even if it seems impossible at first.

I’m proud to say that the Program has morphed into a comprehensive professional career training and exhibition program. Now, I can do so much more than represent artists at art fairs- I can show them how to do it themselves the next time. I can show them how to be professional and stand out against the crowd.

I can now help artists:

  • Build the right resumeKnowledge Breeds Confidence.fw
  • Write a statement that will shine
  • Create a compelling bio

I can teach them how to :

  • Create and submit quality images for print
  • Ship their work properly
  • Price and prepare their work for exhibition

I can help them get noticed with tips about:

  • Using social media professionally
  • Creating a website
  • Building a robust email list

All while giving them real-world experience by:

  • Exhibiting at a prestigious art fair
  • Mingling with thousands of collectors and buyers
  • Networking with hundreds of gallerists

Why do I do it all? Because I want more artists out there creating great work, influencing our culture, and making the world a better place. That’s all. But instead of opening another gallery and taking a good chunk of their sales, I created a program that puts success into the hands of the artists themselves- I’m just there to guide them along the way with a helping hand.
